Jendaya Stewart Girrga (Native Bee) Bursary

Jendaya (Jenny, Jen, Jen Jen) was an active member of Djiyagan Dhanbaan. She loved Country and was most at home with Country.

She cared deeply for the land, picking up rubbish, and connecting with plants. Her deep care for Country inspired those around her. This bursary stands as a tribute to Jendaya’s legacy, her grounded strength, her passion for caring for Country, and her inspiration to others to do the same.

The Girrga (Native Bee) Bursary invites young Aboriginal women on Birrbay (Birpai) Country to apply for this opportunity that honours care for Country, community, and culture. This bursary recognises the strength of women and their connection to Country.

About the Bursary

Amount: $650, one time payment.

From 2025, each year, this bursary supports Aboriginal women aged 18–30 who live and work on Birrbay Birpai Country and are actively involved in:

  • Environmental care
  • Land and sea care
  • Other forms of caring for Country

The $650 bursary can be used to help cover the costs of training, equipment, uniforms, or other essentials that support their continued connection and contribution to Country.

By honouring Jendaya’s legacy, the Girrga Bursary supports young women who walk with deep respect, connection, and responsibility to the lands and waters that sustain us....
